P.S. Bear with me– I know the photos you are about to see are low quality and the cakes themselves are mediocre at best! I admit I was often frazzled and in a time crunch when making these, but the good news is my kids didn’t know the difference between what I produced and what a $200 professional cake would look like. (Gotta love kids and their genuine enthusiasm!!) So be confident and just enjoy the creative session. Your kids will love it and feel special, even if it doesn’t come out picture perfect!
P.P.S. Remember, if you’re not a cake decorator or frosting-piping master– no worries! Extra frosting makes everything OK. 😉
Race Track Cake: Pictured Above
Two homemade 9″ Round CHOCOLATE CAKES
CHOCOLATE FROSTING
GREEN FROSTING to pipe on the grassy texture
MINI OREOS for the wheels on the cars
WHITE FROSTING to outline the road, make dotted line, and to attach oreo wheels onto the cars
Crushed OREOS for the road
TOY TREES AND BOULDER optional– I realized later that they don’t have these in the middle of real race tracks. Haha.
RACING FLAG images printed on paper, cut out, and taped to toothpicks
RASPBERRY ZINGERS (contains dairy) to make the cars because we picked those off and gave them to siblings who can eat dairy. *If you don’t want any dairy products touching the cake, make non-dairy rice crispy treats, shape them into cars, and frost them if desired.
Volcano Cake:
One homemade CHOCOLATE or RED VELVET BUNDT CAKE
CHOCOLATE FROSTING
ENJOY LIFE RICEMILK CHOCOLATE BARS OR CHOCOLATE CHUNKS shaved/chopped with a sharp knife, or chocolate sprinkles or crushed oreos for the dirt.
One can CHERRY or RASPBERRY PIE FILLING for the lava
DINOSAUR and TREE TOYS optional
Note: If I were to attempt this again, I would try adding frosting, another pointy layer of cake, or a shaped rice crispy treat around the top edges to make it look more volcano-like on top.
Cars 2 Cake: In Tokyo
And no, those aren’t real Japanese characters. 😉
One 9″ round CAKE
CHOCOLATE FROSTING
Whole OREOS
CHOCOLATE SPRINKLES
COLORED SPRINKLES – larger confetti ones were used to make “windows” in the skyscrapers.
GRAHAM CRACKERS – make sure they are dairy/nut-free and made in a dairy/nut-free facility.
WHITE FROSTING plus FOOD COLORING for the colored buildings and writing. Note: it takes a lot of food coloring to get vivid colors.
LIGHTENING McQUEEN and FINN McMISSILE TOYS
Princess Castle Cake:
One 9×13 CAKE, one 8×8 CAKE, four CUPCAKES – I cut two squares out of the 8×8 cake and stacked them to make the middle tower.
ICE CREAM CONES
ANY COLOR FROSTING and SPRINKLES
PAPER FLAGS taped to toothpicks
Beyblade Cake: The Green Hades Stadium
Two 9″ round CHOCOLATE CAKES because the Green Hades Stadium in the cartoon was natural in the ground.
CHOCOLATE FROSTING for the sides
Finely crushed OREOS for the sides to make it look like dirt
GREEN FROSTING for the top of the stadium
Two BEYBLADE TOYS set in the middle of the stadium as if they’re “battling.” I took this picture before I added the toys. If you don’t know what BeyBlades are, I added a small picture below the cake.
